The BFI London Film Festival unveiled Whit Stillman’s Damsels In Distress as its annual surprise film last night.

The film world premiered as the closing night selection in Venice and also screened in Toronto.

Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody, Analeigh Tipton, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Carrie MacLemore, and Hugo Becker star in the story of a group of undergraduates at an East Coast university that has only recently begun to accept female students. Stillman also wrote the script.

In further LFF updates as the festival heads into its closing on Thursday, organisers have announced repeat screenings for “best of the fest.”

On Wednesday Oct 26, there will be a screening of Emmanuel Mouret’s The Art of Love.

On Thursday Oct 27, screenings have been added for Ralph Fiennes’ Coriolanus, David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, Drake Doreum’s Like Crazy, Dexter Fletcher’s Wild Bill, Paul Kelly’s Lawrence of Belgravia, Andrea Molaioli’s The Jewel, Nicholas Ray’s We Can’t Go Home Again, and Intimate Vision: Films By Chick Strand.

Also on Oct 27, the festival will screen the winner of the Best British Newcomer Award at 18:30, the winner of the Grierson Award for Best Documentary at 21:00, and the winner of the Sutherland Award at 21:00 (all those winners will be announced the night before).

The festival closes Oct 27 with a gala screening of Terence Davies’ The Deep Blue Sea.
