Michael Shamberg, producer of Pulp Fiction and A Walk Among the Tombstones, to be honoured at Zurich Film Festival, which has added Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here.

Zurich Film Festival (Sept 25 - Oct 5) is to honour US producer Michael Shamberg with its ‘Golden Eye’ Career Achievement Award.

The festival also announced that it has added Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here, produced by Shamberg and Stacey Sher, to its gala premiere section.

It is the second film produced by Shamberg and Sher to feature in this year’s ZFF, with A Walk Among the Tombstones recently added and star Liam Neeson confirmed to attend.

Shamberg, whose credits include Best Picture Oscar nominees The Big Chill, Pulp Fiction, Erin Brockovich and Django Unchained, will receive his award at a ceremony in Zurich on Sept 26.

In a joint statement, ZFF co-directors Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri called Shamberg “one of the most innovative producers in contemporary Hollywood”.

Before working in the film industry, Shamberg was a police reporter in Chicago. He later moved to New York and joined Time Magazine before a transition into producing documentaries for television.

As well as the previously mentioned Oscar nominees, he went on to produce sci-fi dramas Contagion and Oscar-winner Gattaca; zeitgeist comedies Reality Bites and Garden State; comedy-thrillers Get Shorty and Out of Sight; and comedies Along Came Polly and A Fish Called Wanda.

Shamberg and Sher most recently wrapped an untitled chef comedy starring Bradley Cooper, Uma Thurman and Jamie Dornan, which was directed by John Wells.

His other new project with Sher is Freeheld, a drama starring Julianne Moore, Ellen Page, Michael Shannon and Steve Carrell.

Outside of film, Shamberg executive produced TV series Reno 911!. Under his production company Double Feature Films, Shamberg is currently in pre-production on a futuristic martial arts series for AMC, titled Badlands.

He was recently named an advisor to the newly established BuzzFeed Motion Pictures, which will produce online video that “combines digital and Hollywood storytelling skills”.
