Neighbouring Sounds wins top prize at !f Istanbul
Screenwriters’ Association award goes to The Act of Killing.
Kleber Mendonca Filho’s Neighbouring Sounds from Brazil has won the !f Inspired International Competition at the !f Istanbul festival. The prize comes with $15,000 cash.
The jury was comprised of Turkish actress Meltem Cumbul, director Miguel Gomes, producer Marianne Slot, director Denis Cote and former Film Society of Lincoln Center director Richard Pena.
They said in a statement: “For the prize we have selected a film that not only offers a perceptive journey into contemporary society but does it in such a way that allows each viewer to come to his or her own conclusions about that society.”
The Turkish Screenwriters’ Association presented its award to Joshua Oppenheimer for The Act Of Killing.
