Third edition of the festival to take place June 20-July 3.
The UK premiere of Anurag Kashyap’s epic gangster film Gangs Of Wasseypur (premiering in Cannes this week) will open the third edition of the London Indian Film Festival, which is supported by Film London and Western Union.
This year’s festival will include world premieres of two UK Asian films, including Tooting Broadway on June 22 at Cineworld Haymarket, and the UK premiere of Srijit Mukherji’s thriller Baishey Shrabon (Seventh August) will close the festival on July 3.
Venues for this year’s festival include BFI Southbank, ICA, the O2 and Tate Modern, where there will be a season of new Indian experimental film and video.
Cary Rajinder Sawhney, Festival Director commented: “In addition to showing great movies, we also aim to help get these films talked about and screened more broadly in cinemas in the UK, in the same way that Iranian cinema has been. London of course has a huge Asian audience for these movies, but many non-Asian Brits would also like to find out more about the 1.2 billion strong India of today, and cinema is a great way to do this.”
The festival runs June 20-July 3, with tickets on sale now at the BFI and Watermans and at other venues from June 1.
