The Argentinian film director, screenwriter and politician will receive the 2012 Ischia Legend Award for his lifetime contributions to the cinema of Argentina during the Ischia Global Film & Music Festival.

“Fernando Solanas is one of the greatest artists of Latin American cinema,” actor Frank Nero said. “Apart from being an iconic director and writer, he has composed numerous film scores with the great Astor Piazzolla and has inspired filmmakers around the globe.”

Solanas was awarded the Golden Bear at the 2004 Berlinale and is best known for his films Tangos, Sur and El Viaje.

The Ischia Global Film & Music Festival is set to run from Jul 8-15 in Naples.
