Letters To Jackie will open AFI Docs (formerly Silverdocs) while Documented will be the centerpiece screening. The festival is set to run in Washington DC from Jun 19-23.

Bill Couturié directed Letters To Jackie, which features actors such as Viola Davis Jessica Chastain and Michelle Williams reading letters written by the public to the First Lady in the wake of the assassination of John F Kennedy.

TLC will present the film as a special TV event in November to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of JFK’s death.

Jose Antonio Vargas’ Documented explores immigration in America through the lens of the filmmaker’s personal story as one of the country’s most prominent undocumented immigrants.

“Some issues and emotions are so powerful that they must find expression in the public square and in our case, the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue,” said AFI president and CEO Bob Gazzale. “Letters To Jackie and Documented will prompt essential national conversations that are at the heart of AFI Docs.”
