Announcing the line-up on Tuesday (17) festival organisers also said there would be a tribute to character actor Robert Loggia before the world premiere of The Diary Of Preston Plummer.

All in all more than 100 films from 35 countries will screen from Mar 2-11. Events include the Spotlight On Quebec Cinema, Four World Directors To Watch and the Miami Mavericks spotlight.

World premieres include Born & Raised, La Casa Del Ritmo, A Film About Los Amigos Invisibles, The Diary Of Preston Plummer, Hombre Y Tierra, Mariachi Gringo, The Porcelain Horse and Underground Hip-Hop In China.

The roster includes Philippe Farlardeau’s Monsieur Lazhar, Ken Scott’s Starbuck, Alejandro Landes’ Porfirio, Bess Kargman’s First Position and Sundance documentary entry The Imposter from Bart Layton.

“Now in our 29th year, it’s exciting to see MIFF’s reputation, as an influential and unique player among US and international film festivals, become stronger and stronger,” executive director Jaie Laplante said. “The festival has emerged as key indicator of the health and creativity of the film industry. The significant quality of the films in and out of competition proves it will be an exciting year for film lovers.”
