Organisers at the Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) have announced the line-up of films shot and set in Miami. The festival is set to run from Mar 1-10.

“MIFF’s strong commitment to highlighting the best of Florida production is a tribute to the great talent that exists from and within our state,” said MIFF executive director Jaie Laplante.

“Nearly all of the Florida films we are highlighting this year take place in Miami. The city plays such a pivotal role in these stories; I don’t think any other city would have as great of an impact on these specific stories as Miami does.”

The Florida Focus category includes: the world premiere of Calloused Hands by Jesse Quiñones; Pincus by David Fenster; and Tony Tango by Manolo Celí.

Two short films by Miami film-makers will also receive world premieres and they are Eleven: Twelve by music video director JC Barros and Red Wine (Vino Tinto) by Carlos Gutierrez.

Screenings with a Miami connection include Venus And Serena, about the Palm Beach-based Williams tennis siblings; The Discoverers (America The Beautiful category) starring Tampa-born actress Dreama Walker; a restored version of the 1979 Cuban-American film El Super; the 20th anniversary screening of the Miami-based film Zoo; and the recent Sundance premiere Blackfish, which plays in Knight Documentary Competition category and features Floridian trainers at Sea World Orlando.
