The Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) has hired Elena Manrique to spearhead the entertainment industry relations initiative and oversee the REEL Education seminar programme.

The Spanish producer served six years at TeleCinco Cinema and was executive producer on Pan’s Labyrinth, Celda 211 and The Orphanage.

Manrique will work alongside MIFF’s senior programme consultant for Ibero-American cinema and Encuentros director Diana Sanchez to bring buyers and sales agents into contact with producers during the ninth edition of the Encuentros.

The three-day Encuentros gives emerging producers from Florida, Spain, Portugal and Latin America the opportunity to meet industry professionals from the US and the rest of the world.

MIFF is set to run from March 4-13, 2011.
