As the festival got underway last week [21], top brass said they would use the internet platform to enable film industry professionals to view programming online.

“We see the participation of SFIFF in Festival Scope as a substantial benefit for the works programmed to screen at the festival,” San Francisco Film Society director of programming Rachel Rosen said.

“The site has been thoughtfully planned by people who really understand the industry and provides access to the festival programme to buyers and festival programmers who can’t make the trip to San Francisco.”

The network of festivals aligned with the service includes Directors’ Fortnight and Critics Week in Cannes, as well as the Berlinale, Rotterdam, Locarno, Melbourne, Montreal Festival Du Nouveau Cinéma, Guadalajara, Valdivia and Cartagena.

“[San Francisco] were among those first festivals who believed in Festival Scope even before it was online, so we are very happy to have it as the first festival in the US,” Festival Scope CEO and founder Alessandro Raja said.

Following each film’s initial screening at the festival, Festival Scope members will be able to view select films from the festival’s New Directors and documentary strands.
