Nicolas Provost triumphed at the 38th International Seattle Film Festival as he was named best new director for Belgian entry The Invader.

Five Star Existence from Finland’s Sonja Lindén won the best documentary prize while the FIPRESCI Prize for Best New American Film went to Keith Miller for Welcome To Pine Hill.

In the audience awards, the Best Film Golden Space Needle Award went to Any Day Now (pictured) from Travis Fine and the Best Documentary Golden Space Needle Award was presented to The Invisible War from Kirby Dick.

The Best Director Golden Space Needle Award went to Benh Zeitlin for his in vogue Beasts Of The Southern Wild. Acting honours went to Alan Cumming for Any Day Now and Jamie Chung for Eden.

The Best Short Film Golden Space Needle Award was presented to Catcam from Seth Keal.

“A festival’s success is dependent on two basic principles: providing a platform for filmmakers to be celebrated and connecting them to audience members that would not otherwise be aware of their remarkable stories,” SIFF artistic director Carl Spence said.

“This year a record number of filmmakers participated in person and online with virtual Q&A’s successfully expanding the conversation around the best in cinema with passionate audiences, illuminating guests and distinguished industry in attendance.”
