The Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) has acquired the historic Uptown Theater and will re-open it on Oct 20 in conjunction with the opening of its new film centre at Seattle Center.

SIFF will transition from its current location at McGraw Hall in the autumn and offer increased seating capacity and additional screens at the new venue.

Uptown Theater was originally opened in 1926 and operated in the AMC movie theatre chain until it was closed last winter.

“We couldn’t have scripted a better opportunity for our organisation than to have SIFF cinema at the Uptown and the new SIFF Film Center in such close proximity,” artistic director Carl Spence said.

“Seattle Center and Queen Anne are the perfect locations for us to expand in and we’re excited to be opening our doors in time for Seattle’s ‘Next 50’ celebration next year.”
