Miami International Film Festival executive director Jaie Laplante said for the first time documentaries will open and close the event, which runs from Mar 1-10.

All in all 117 features and 12 shorts will screen from 41 countries. As announced previously, Lasse Hallström and Fernando Trueba will receive career achievement tributes.

Competition categories include the Knight Ibero-American Competition, the Knight Documentary Competition and the Lexus Ibero-American Opera Prima Competition.

Sundance hit Twenty Feet From Stardom [pictured] is the opening night film and Toronto 2012 entry Venus And Serena will close the festival.
