The second annual Montclair Film Festival has completed its programming schedule, festival artistic director Thom Powers and executive director Raphaela Neihausen announced on Thursday [Apr 4].
The New Jersey-based festival opens on Apr 29 with Twenty Feet From Stardom [pictured], director Morgan Neville’s acclaimed documentary about backup singers, and will close on May 5 with Montclair resident Stacie Passon’s locally shot drama Concussion, about a suburban lesbian mother seeking new thrills.
The festival centerpiece, Lake Bell’s comedy In A World…, will screen on May 4 and focuses on the work of movie-trailer voice-over artists. Bell and singer Darlene Love will be in attendance.
“We set out to curate a festival that is unique to this community,” said Powers.
“Montclair and Northern New Jersey are home to many media professionals from the fields of news, music, comedy and family entertainment. We’re fortunate to tap accomplished locals to participate and have them as an influential audience.”
Also to be featured in programming on May 5 will be three discussion events, Getting The Story with documentarian Alex Gibney, Dangerous Docs with Michael Moore and a discussion with Rapper Ice-T about his film, Iceberg Slim: Portrait Of A Pimp, which will screen on May 4.
