Ken Loach will be awarded the festival’s Gran Premio Torino.

Paolo Sorrentino, the award winning Italian director of Il Divo and This Must Be The Place, has been named as President of the International Feature Competition Jury at the 30th Torino Film Festival, which runs November 23-December 1.

The Gran Premio Torino of the 30th edition prize will go to British director Ken Loach, who will be in Torino with screenwriter Paul Laverty to receive the award.

The award is given annually to film makers who have ‘promoted the renewal of the film language, the creation of new aesthetic models and the popularization of the contemporary trends’.

Loach will present his latest feature, The Angels’ Share. which follows the story of a group of young unemployed Glaswegians and their relationship with Scotch whisky, to Italian audiences for the first time. The film, which won the Jury Prize at Cannes, is being distributed in Italy by Bim.
