Steve McQueen’s Shame and latest from Johnnie To and Nicolas Provost added to Zabaltegi-Pearls section; 15 go for New Directors prize.

Kim Ki-duk’s Amen and Oren Moverman’s Rampart complete the 16-strong Official Selection at this year’s San Sebastian Film Festival (Sept 16-24).

Steve McQueen’s Shame, Nicolas Provost’s The Invader (L’envahisseur) and Johnnie To’s A Life Without Principle (Dyut Ming Gam) – all debuting in Venice - have been added to the Zabaltegi Pearls section of the competition.

Mostly shot in Europe, Amen, which gets its world premiere, narrates the mysterious voyage of a young Korean girl and her encounters with a man on her trail. Kim Ki-duk’s Arirang picked up the Un Certain Regard award in Cannes this year. Rampart, Moverman’s first directing role since acclaimed drama The Messenger, stars Woody Harrelson as a veteran, renegade police officer. Robin Wright, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Sigourney Weaver, Anne Heche, Ice Cube and Ned Beatty co-star.

Fifteen films will compete for the Kutxa-New Directors Award, which goes to a first or second feature and comes with a prize of €90,000. Alongside three titles also in the in the Official selection: Americano by Mathieu Demy, Rampart by Oren Moverman and Take This Waltz by Sarah Polley, and three previously announced Spanish entries (Ignacio Ferreras’ Wrinkles (Arrugas), Sandra Sánchez’ Behind the Lights (Tralas luces) and Telmo Esnal’s Urte berri on, amona!), the following 12 films will compete:
