James Marsh’s Shadow Dancer was the big winner at the 23rd edition of Brittany’s Dinard British Film Festival.
At Saturday evening’s award ceremony, announced by a jury headed by actor and singer Patrick Bruel, Marsh’s thriller won The Golden Hitchcock Award, which includes financial support to the French distributor (Wild Bunch Distribution) and the filmmaker and also The Cine+ Award, which offers a promotional campaign on Ciné+ channels at the time of release. The film also won the Prix Public chosen by the festival’s audiences.
The Heartbeat Award (Prix Coup de Coeur) went to Ben Drew’s iLL Manors, which will receive distribution support on top of its existing French distribution deal, with the film being screened in a further 50 cinemas across Brittany and western France.
The Technicolor Award for Best Cinematography also went to iLL Manors (sold by Bankside).
The Allianz Award for Best Screenplay went to Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn’s Good Vibrations, written by Glenn Patterson and Colin Carberry.
This year’s Best Short Film Award picked from a selection of films offered by the National Film and Television School (NFTS) and its French counterpart FEMIS, went to Timothy Reckart for Head Over Heels.
Wasteland got two special mentions from la Règle du Jeu president Alain Durand and Jury president Patrick Bruel. The film has also just secured distribution in France with Films Distribution.
Marc Evans’ Hunky Dory opened the Festival on Thursday and the event closed with Morgan Matthews’ Britain in a Day.
