More than 8,500 attendees turned up for second Curacao International Film Festival Rotterdam.

The second Curacao International Film Festival Rotterdam came to a close Sunday with the inaugural Yellow Robin Award going to She Doesn’t Want To Sleep Alone (No quiero dormir sola) by Mexican filmmaker Natalia Beristáin. The award, which recognises new talents from the Caribbean, Mexico and Latin America, comes with a cash prize of $10,000 and a selection for the upcoming festival in Rotterdam in 2014. The jury included Rutger Wolfson (Director International Film Festival Rotterdam), David Pinedo (film critic and script advisor) and Bernadette Heiligers (text producer and PR expert).

The feature previously won Best Film at Mexico’s Morelia Film Festival. It is a story about a thirtysomething woman who has to take care of her alcoholic grandmother.

In the youth competition Short Films, BIG Stories, the jury prize for best fiction film went to La Trinitaria Marchita by Elyse Isebia and Inez Loods (it also won the audience award); the Jury Prize for Best Music Video went to AnwarBeatz feat. Gilberto by Anwar Braaf, Gilberto Morishaw and Jordan Isenia.

This year’s event screened 42 films and saw 8,500 visitors to The Cinemas in Willemstad.

Fundashon Bon Intenshon runs the festival, which is co-organised with the International Film Festival Rotterdam are extremely delighted with this large audience interest.

They have already set dates for the third edition: April 3-6, 2014.
