K5 takes on Sundance picks Mother of George and Narco Cultura

K5 continues close ties with producers Parts & Labor.

Continuing its relationship with Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy’s US production company Parts & Labor, K5 International has boarded two Sundance selections: Andrew Dosunmu’s Mother of George in the US Narrative Competition, and Shaul Schwarz’s Narco Cultura in the US Documentary Competition.

K5 International is handling international sales, outside of North America, for both films, which are both produced by Parts & Labor.

Directed by Israeli born war photographer Shaul Schwarz, Narco Cultura examins the Mexican drug cartels’ pop culture influence on both sides of the border. Ocean Size Pictures’ Todd Hagopian also produced. CAA is handling North American sales and the film will also screen in Berlin Panorama.

The drama Mother Of George is about a charismatic couple running a Nigerian restaurant in Brooklyn; their marriage is complicated when she fails to become pregnant. Danai Gurira and Isaach De Bankolé star. The film’s other producers are Matt Parker, Carly Hugo, Darci Picoult, Chris Maybach, Saemi Kim and Tony Okungbowa. Paradigm represents North American rights.

K5 International Co-Founders Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur said, “Lars and Jay’s taste is impeccable. Not only are they able to construct and deliver these extraordinary projects, they continue to surprise with newer and fresher stories. That both films are in Sundance and at the start of an exciting global journey makes us very excited to be involved.”

Carl Clifton, K5 Partner Sales & Marketing, added: “Andrew Donsunmu is an exceptional talent. We’re honoured to be working with him on this beautiful and achingly emotional film.”

Parts & Labor, which was established in 2004, has credits including Beginners, Old Joy, Exploding Girl, Here, Cold Weather and Loneliest Planet.
