Elle Driver visits Black Rock, Millennium sees Red Lights

Katie Aselton’s Midnight entry Black Rock follows three friends on a fateful girls’ getaway to a remote island and was acquired earlier in the festival by LD Distribution for North American rights.

Submarine’s David Koh, Josh Braun and Dan Braun negotiated the international rights deal with Adeline Fontan Tessaur of Elle Driver.

Meanwhile Millennium has pounced on US rights to Red Lights, Rodrigo Cortes’ deeply divisive follow-up to his Sundance 2010 hit Buried. Cillian Murphy and Sigourney Weaver play scientists who debunk paranormal hoaxes and appear to meet their match when a legendary psychic comes out of retirement. Robert De Niro and Elizabeth Olsen also star.

Cortes and Adrian Guerra produced and Cindy Cowan, Irving Cowan and Lisa Wilson served as executive producers. Wilson’s Parlay Films handles international sales. Millennium Films director of acquisitions Tristen Tuckfield negotiated the deal with UTA Independent Film Group.

Fox Searchlight was in action again on Tuesday, announcing its second acquisition following Monday’s $6m worldwide deal for The Surrogate, taking US rights to Benh Zeitlin’s fantastical drama Beasts Of The Southern Wild.

Searchlight plans a 2012 release and Tony Safford, Ray Strache and Megan O’Brien negotiated for the company with WME Global’s Graham Taylor and Mark Anker and Andre Des Rochers of Gray Krauss Stratford Des Rochers.
