SUNDANCE: The new-look Focus Features led by Peter Schlessel has made its first high-profile acquisition in Park City, reportedly paying around $2.8m for North America, Poland and South Africa on Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here.

The deal closed on January 19 after Focus negotiated rights with CAA on behalf of the filmmakers. Wild Bunch represents international rights and closed a number of sales at AFM last year.

Braff famously turned to Kickstarter to fund his drama, which follows a young man at a crossroads in life.

Braff co-wrote with his brother Adam and stars opposite Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad, Ashley Greene, Joey King and Pierce Gagnon.

Stacey Sher, Michael Shamberg and Zach and Adam Braff produced and the executive producer roster features Christopher Woodrow, Molly Conners, Maria Cestone, Sarah E Johnson and Hoyt David Morgan.

Wish I Was Here premiered in the Premieres section on January 18.
