The fellows represent nine projects to take part in the eighth Documentary Edit and Story Lab running from Jun 24-July 2 and the ninth Composers + Documentary Lab running from July 6-12.

“Holistic creative and professional support for independent documentary films are at the heart of the Sundance Institute DFP mission, and we are thrilled to be increasing the amount of time and resources dedicated to cultivating both film projects and the ongoing careers of independent documentarians through these Labs,” Cara Mertes, director of the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program, said.

“The Labs offer an opportunity to build new communities of practice in documentary, as well as infusing the documentary field with a deep understanding of the important role of original composition in non-fiction cinema.”

The five films selected for the 2011 Sundance Institute Documentary Edit and Story Lab are:

¿Donde Estan? (US/El Salvador), dir Maria Teresa Rodriguez, pdr Kaye Pyle and edr Ann Tegnell;

The House That Herman Built (Canada/US), dir Angad Bhalla, edr Ricardo Acost;

The Revolutionary Optimists (US), Co-dirs Maren Grainger-Monsen, Nicole Newnham, edr Andrew Gersh;

Turkey Creek (US), dir Leah Mahan, edr Bill Anderson; and

Untitled Lauren Greenfield Project (US), dir Lauren Greenfield, edr Brian Johnson.

The four films selected for the 2011 Sundance Institute Composers + Documentary Lab are:

Cesar’s Last Fast (US), dir Richard Ray Perez, cmpsr Heather Schmidt;

Gardens Of Paradise (US), dir Bernardo Ruiz, cmpsr Ben Goldberg;

The House That Herman Built (Canada/US), dir Angad Bhalla, edr Ricardo Acosta, cmpsr Ronen Landa; and

A Place At The Table (US), dir-pdr Jerret Engle, co-pdr Cort Tramontin, cmpsr Michael Roth.
