Sundance: The Summit sells to Sundance Selects
UPDATE JAN 19: Heading into Sunday, acquisitions teams including The Weinstein Company and Relativity Media were understood to be in the mix for Don Jon’s Addiction, while another Friday premiere, The Spectacular Now, was also drawing heat.
Sundance Selects struck the North American deal with rights holder Submarine at 4am on Saturday  and plans a theatrical release. Buyers were quick to circle Nick Ryan’s documentary following world premiere and press and industry screenings on Friday. John Battsek’s Passion Pictures and Fantastic Films are among the producers of the account of a fatal mountaineering expedition to K2.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s feature directorial debut Don Jon’s Addiction was financed by international sales agent Voltage Pictures. CAA holds US rights and as previously reported here, Warner Bros will release in the UK while Mars will distribute in France.
Other titles to attract early interest include Austenland and Kill Your Darlings.
Drake Doremus’ Premieres entry Breathe In earned a strong reception at its first showing on Saturday afternoon. Saturday night’s anticipated premieres include StudioCanal and Film4’s The Look Of Love directed by Michael Winterbottom and starring his frequent collaborator Steve Coogan as adult entertainment magnate Paul Raymond, as well as Fruitvale and The Lifeguard.
