SUNDANCE: The Orchard has taken North American rights to The Overnight as reports emerged that Lionsgate was closing on Chilewood psychosexual thriller Knock Knock.
The Orchard plans a wide theatrical release for The Overnight after reportedly stumping up $4m.
Patrick Brice directed the US Dramatic Competition entry set over the course of one bizarre evening in Los Angeles and starring Adam Scott, Taylor Schilling, Jason Schwartzman and Judith Godrèche.
Mark Duplass served as executive producer. ICM Partners and Submarine represented the film in association with WME Global.
The Orchard is one of several new players in the US distribution landscape hungry for content. The music company made its first foray into film last year and the release roster includes What We Do In The Shadows and Dior And I.
Meanwhile Lionsgate was said to be circling Chilewood thriller Knock Knock, Eli Roth’s non-horror outing that stars Keanu Reeves as a married man who invites two temptresses into his home.
Roth co-wrote with his Chilean collaborators Guillermo Amoedo and Nicolas Lopez. Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas co-star.
Cassian Elwes represents US rights and Voltage Pictures international rights.
The film shot in April 2014 with Chile standing in for the LA county enclave of Calabasas.
