Wolfe Releasing picks up Javier Fuentes-Leon’s Sundance audience award winner Undertow (Contracorriente).

Wolfe Releasing has acquired North American rights from Shoreline to Javier Fuentes-Leon’s Sundance audience award winner Undertow (Contracorriente).

Fuentes-Leon wrote and directed the love story about a married fisherman in Peru who struggles to reconcile his love for a man with traditional family values. Cristian Mercado, Tatiana Astengo and Manolo Cardona star.

“We are thrilled to represent this touching story,” Wolfe Releasing president Maria Lynn said. “We are confident that all audiences will love this haunting and beautifully crafted film about forbidden love within the traditions of a small town.”

“Sundance audiences have chosen to celebrate diversity by awarding the film, and our hope is that this attention will allow Undertow to connect with a wider audience,” Fuentes-Leon said.

“We have found a great partner in Wolfe Releasing, which has a track record of distributing quality gay and lesbian films to wide audiences.”
