UPDATE: Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) has acquired all international rights to Space Station 76, while in separate deals Picturehouse has acquired The Guest and Starz Digital Media has taken North American rights to To Be Takei ahead of their Austin screenings.

Space Station 76 is set to premiere at SXSW on March 8 and stars Patrick Wilson and Liv Tyler in the comedic retro tale of space station inhabitants imperiled by an asteroid. Jack Plotnick directed.

Edward Parks, Rachel Ward, Dan Burks, Joel Michaely and Katherine Ann McGregor produced and Niraj Bhatia and Frank Mele served as executive producers.  

SPWA brokered the deal with Parks and Mele of Rival Pictures and their legal team at Reder & Feig. Kevin Iwashina and Zac Bright of Preferred Content represent US rights.

Picturehouse has acquired all US rights to Adam WIngard’s Sundance premiere The Guest, which also screens in Austin on March 8.

Snoot Entertainment’s Keith Calder and Jessica Calder produced the story of a mysterious soldier who arrives in a small town.

Picturehouse negotiated the deal with CAA and Erik Hyman of Loeb & Loeb an autumn release.

Starz Digital Media will line up a theatrical release for To Be Takei, the documentary about the 76-year-old Star Trek alumnus George Takei from Jennifer M Kroot.

Submarine Entertainment and attorney Lisa Callif of Donaldson + Callif represented the filmmakers in the deal.
