Travis Fine’s narrative (pictured) and Tom Putnam’s documentary claimed the prizes on Saturday night, earning $25,000 apiece in the first time audience awards were handed out for both disciplines.

Films in the World Narrative Competition, World Documentary Competition, Viewpoints, Spotlight and Cinemania sections were eligible.

“It’s gratifying to see audiences respond so overwhelmingly to these world premiere films,” Tribeca Film Festival executive director Nancy Schafer said.

“Both films strike uplifting and hopeful notes, and we look forward to them continuing to garner strong audience reaction long after the Festival is over.”

All the other awards winners were handed out at the awards ceremony on Apr 26. The festival ran from Apr 18-29.
