Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia [pictured] will screen in four cities as it opens the festival, which runs Nov 8-Dec 2.

Laurent Tirard’s Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia will receive its UK premiere as the opening film of the French Film Festival UK, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and takes place in various cities across the country.

Tirard’s adaptation of 1966 comic book Astérix in Britain, which made $11.7m in its opening international weekend, will screen in London on Nov 8 with screenings planned in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee over the following days.

Other films screening at this year’s edition include Philippe Lioret’s All Our Desires, Noémie Lvovsky’s Camille Rewinds (with Lvovky in attendance) and Valérie Donizelli’s Declaration of War, as well as exclusive previews of films shortly due for UK release such as Gilles Bourdos’ Renoir, Joachim Lafosse’s Our Children and Pascal Thomas’ Agatha Christie adaptation Partners in Crime.

Chantel Akerman will be the focus of a retrospective, curated by Marion Schmid, Professor of French Literature and Film at the University of Edinburgh, which will see Akerman attend the festival to present her latest film Almayer’s Folly with the festival also screening nine of her films including A Couch in New York and Night and Day.

Guests set to attend this year’s festival include Pierre Jolivet, Eric Lange, Sophie Lellouche, François Pirot, Arthur Dupont and Guillaume Couix.
