Venice adds new awards for 70th edition

Festival also sets jury members at nine for the jury of the Competition for the Golden Lion and at seven for the members of the Orizzonti jury and the jury of the “Luigi De Laurentiis” prize for a debut film.

The board of directors at the Venice International Film Festival has approved the regulations of their 70th edition (Aug 28-Sept 7), following the recommendations of festival director Alberto Barbera.

Among the changes is the addition of a grand jury prize for the Venezia 70 Competition, with the award for best technical contribution removed, and two new awards for the Orizzonti section (the Orizzonti prize for best director and the special Orizzonti prize for innovative content).

The number of members of the jury of the Competition for the Golden Lion has been set at nine (previously seven) and at seven for the members of the Orizzonti jury and the jury of the “Luigi De Laurentiis” prize for a debut film (previously five).

Venice Classics, dedicated to restored films and documentaries about cinema, has also been confirmed as a permanent section following its debut during the 2012 Venice International Film Festival.
