The 66th Venice International Film Festival has announced that Hana Makhmalbaf’s Green Days and The Movie Orgy - Ultimate Version by Joe Dante are this year’s surprise screenings in its Out of Competition and Orizzonti sections.

Green Days, which will screen Out of Competition, is the latest film from 21 year old Iranian director Makhmalbaf. She made her debut at Venice in 2003 – aged just 15 years old – with her first film Joy Of Madness (Lezate Divanegi). Green Days, which aims to highlight the condition of women in Iran, is a mix of documentary footage and fiction.

Dante’s The Movie Orgy – Ultimate Version, a 280-minute version of the cult compilation film, is a tribute to B-movies of the 1950s and 1960s. It was made by the director in 1968 and originally lasted seven hours.

Meanwhile, the festival has also added the international premiere of British director Peter Greenaway’s The Marriage, which is dedicated to artist Veronese’s painting The Wedding at Cana. Greenway recently explored the painting through a multi-media art installation in Venice. The world premiere of Great Directors, the debut film from New York-based film-maker Angela Ismailos, which is dedicated to the protagonists of modern and contemporary cinema Bernardo Bertolucci, Catherine Breillat, Liliana Cavani, Stephen Frears, Todd Haynes, Richard Linklater, Ken Loach, David Lynch, John Sayles and Agnès Varda. Both will also screen in the Orizzonti section.
