FilmFour International, the sales arm of the UK's FilmFour, has closed an all-rights package deal with Spain's Alta Films, the division's first with a Spanish company.

Titles in the deal include Alan Taylor's The Emperor's New Clothes, which is currently shooting in Malta and Italy; Werner Herzog's Invincible, starring Tim Roth; and Lucky Break, director Peter Cattaneo's follow-up to The Full Monty. FilmFour previously sold Spanish rights on a title-by-title basis but aims to establish close relationships with key distributors in major territories. The company recently formed long-term pacts with Germany's Senator and the US' Warner Bros.

Also in the Alta package are Large and Late Night Shopping, which are in post; Simon Cellan Jones' Cannes title Some Voices; Julien Temple's The Filth And The Fury; Mike Hodges' Croupier, which has taken more than $5.5m in the US; and Asif Kapadia's The Warrior, which is shooting in India.

"Alta Films have long been a cornerstone of the film industry in Spain and they are at a very exciting and expanding point right now. It makes perfect sense for our companies to be in business together," said Paul Webster, FilmFour chief executive.

The deal was brokered by Janine Gold, acting film sales manager at FilmFour, and Enrique Gonzalez Kuhn of Alta. It comes after Alta distributed a range of FilmFour titles, including East Is East, The War Zone and Shallow Grave.

Enrique Gonzalez Macho, president of Alta, commented: "We are very happy to have reached this deal. We consider FilmFour to be one of the most dynamic, inspired and quality-driven production companies in Europe."
