Walter Salles' The Motorcycle Diaries has started shooting in Argentina. The film stars Gael Garcia Bernal (Y Tu Mama Tambien, Amores Perros) as the young Che, rising young Argentinean actor Rodrigo de la Serna (Same Love, Same Rain) as Alberto and Mia Maestro (Frida, Hotel, Timecode) as Chichina Ferreyra. Shooting began on September 30th and will continue across Argentina, Chile and Peru until January 31st, 2003.

The Motorcycle Diaries is based on Che Guevara and Alberto Granado's accounts of the epic journey they undertook in 1952 as young medical students travelling across Latin America.

The Motorcycle Diaries, penned by award-winning playwright Jose Rivera, is an adventure story, a personal odyssey and an inspiring tale of friendship. Che Guevara would go on to become one of the most charismatic and controversial political leaders and revolutionaries of our time.

The film is a Southfork Pictures Production in association with Tu Vas Voir Production for FilmFour.

The film is produced by Michael Nozik (Quiz Show, The Legend of Bagger Vance), Edgard Tenembaum (Late Marriage, Le Souffle) and Karen Tenkhoff (People I Know, The Legend of Bagger Vance). Co-Producers are Diego Dubcovsky and Daniel Burman. Robert Redford will serve as Executive Producer along with Paul Webster from FilmFour. Rebecca Yeldham, who brought the project to FilmFour, will also serve as Executive Producer.

Worldwide sales for the film are being handled by FilmFour International, which has already sold the following territories: Cinelibre/Cineart for Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg, Rosebud S.A for Greece and Cyprus, BIM Distribution in Italy, Nippon Herald Films Inc in Japan and Lusomundo in Portugal.
