Fortissimo Films hasacquired worldwide rights to acclaimed Thai director ApichatpongWeerasethakul's Syndromes And A Century.

The film, which is one of thesix New Crowned Hope (NCH) projects, focuses on the memories of two doctors,one male and one female, and is inspired by the filmmaker's parents before theywere lovers.

Apichatpong also producedthrough Kick the Machine Films along with Pantham Thongsang for Thailand's Tifa Co and Charles de Meaux for Paris-based AnnaSanders Films. Illuminations Films' Simon Field and Keith Griffiths serve asexecutive producers for New Crowned Hope.

Apichatpong's previous workincludes Tropical Malady, which wasawarded the Jury Prize at Cannesin 2004, Blissfully Yours and Mysterious Object At Noon.

Vienna's New Crowned Hope Festival (Nov 14 - Dec 13), whichforms part of Vienna Mozart Year, aims to bring together artists from diversecultural backgrounds who will show new works and interpretations of Mozart'sideas and visions.

Fortissimo has acquiredworldwide rights to another of the seven films commissioned by the festival -Taiwanese director Tsai Ming-liang's IDon't Want To Sleep Alone - starring Lee Kang Sheng and Chen Shiang Chyiand filmed in Malaysia.
