Fortissimo Films has come onboard as co-producer on Pen-ek Ratanaruang's latest film Ploy, an erotic psychological drama about jealousy produced by the Thai writer-director's longtime producer Thailand's Five Star Production. Fortissimo is also selling the film, which is currently in post-production in Thailand.

The story, written by Pen-ek, is an exploration of jealousy. Only one location and three characters are employed throughout. The cast includes Lalita Panyopas, the lead actress in Pen-ek's 6ixtynin9 and Ananda Everingham who shot to international fame through horror film Shutter.

The tale of love and jealousy begins when the two of them who play husband and wife are locked inside a single hotel room with a stranger named Ploy, played by Apinya Sakuljaroensuk. Subtle suspicions build up to jealousy as the young woman triggers devastating consequences for the couple.

Pen-ek also reunites with top Thai cinematographer Chankit Chamnivikaipong who was the cameraman for Fun Bar Karaoke, 6ixtynin9 and Monrak Transistor before Pen-ek started working with Christopher Doyle on Last Life in the Universe and Invisible Waves which was in competition at last year's Berlin.

'Pen-ek this time has embarked on a project which is intimate yet provocative. His signature style is still very evident in Ploy, and we also warmly welcome the return to film of the sensational Lalita Panyopas, the leading lady of 6ixtynin9,' says Fortissimo Films' Wouter Barendrecht.

Barendrecht and Fortissmo co-chairman Michael J Werner brokered the deal with Five Star Production president Chareon Iamphungphorn.
