Zhang Yimou'sChinese epic Herocontinued its powerful run in the Asian markets over the weekend, openingnumber one for Fox International in Thailand and Malaysia. In Thailand thepicture grossed $479,000 from 107 screens, while Malaysia yielded $192,000 from48. The 10-day cumulative score for the two markets plus Taiwan and Singaporenow stands at $4.8m. Opening top of the table in Taiwan on Jan 18, the picturegrossed $1.7m from 115 screens, making it the fifth highest opener of all timein the territory and Fox's best ever bow. It was also the industry'shighest ever opening for a Chinese film, around 40% more than the previous bestset by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. In Singapore Hero's Jan 16 bow took it straight to number one on $644,277from 42 theatres. This was the highest ever opening for a Chinese picture, Fox'sfourth highest and the best ever January opening in the territory.

My Big FatGreek Wedding openednumber one in Germany and Austria, where Fox sub-released in a deal withSplendid. Both markets combined for $2.3m from 300 screens. Gangs Of NewYork opened second inItaly on $3.1m from 584 screens, behind The Lord Of The Rings: The TwoTowers.

Die AnotherDay added another $4.3mfrom 32 markets for a $216m running total. It achieved spectacular results inDenmark, storming to the top with $970,000 from 80 screens. This was thehighest ever opening in the territory for a James Bond picture, for Fox andMGM. It was also the fourth highest industry opening of all time.
