After landing in 16th place last week - via its showing on only one screen - Finding Nemo jumps to the number one spot after going out wide.

Discounting its single screen run, the fish tale now holds the record for best ever opening for an animated picture.

A rather distant second, Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill lands in the number two position without breaking the one million tickets barrier. Nemo clearly parted the waters this week and left little room for anyone else as admissions for last week's leader Intolerable Cruelty dropped off by 45% followed by Michel Vaillant which lost 50% of its first week business.

No other marked changes occurred but Venice Lion d'Or winner The Return had a healthy showing in its debut week landing at number 10 on only 65 screens.
