A French screenwriter has filed a plagiarism complaint againstWarner Bros and Section Eight, the producers of Stephen Gaghan's Oscar winning Syriana.

Agence France Presse (AFP) reported Tuesday that screenwriter StephanieVergniault had filed against the two companies and Gaghan jointly in Paris. Ahearing is scheduled for Monday April 10.

According to the report, Vergniault wrote a script called Oversight in 2002 and registered it with France'sWriters Guild (SACD) in 2004 as well as filing with the US copyright officethat same year.

Vergniault then gave her script to what her lawyer, Jasna Hadley Stark,is calling "a Canadian company close to Warner Bros."

Stark also told AFP that Vergniault had been writing her scriptsince 1997 and that she is a "specialist in questions tied to oil in the PersianGulf."

Vergniault is asking for an expert to be designated and the provisionalsum of Euros 2m.

In a statement a Warner Bros spokesperson said: "While wehave not seen a copy of this suit, we believe it is without merit and will defendour position in court."
