This year’s Berlinale programme features two WCF-funded films: Harmony Lessons and Workers.
The future of the Berlinale’s World Cinema Fund (WCF) has been secured for another five years with the decision of the German Federal Cultural Foundation (KSB) to assume responsibility for funding from 2014 to 2018.
Founded in 2004 as a joint initiative of the Berlinale and the KSB, the WCF has an annual budget of around €400,000 to support the production and distribution of feature films and documentaries from such regions as Latin America, Africa, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and the Caucasus.
This year’s Berlinale programme features two WCF-funded films: Emir Baigazin’s Harmony Lessons [pictured], which is the first film from Kazakhstan to screen in the Berlinale Competition, and Mexican José Luis Valle’s Workers, showing in the Panorama.
