Future Shorts, the UK-based short film distributor, has signed a deal with private Russian entertainment channel, 2x2, to broadcast short film content on Russian freeview TV.

The deal, which will begin on July 19, will see the films broadcast to TV audiences of 126 million across Russia.

Future Shorts, which has relationships with over 500 filmmakers worldwide, has compiled a selection of shorts into 10 x 30 minute packages. Each programme will be made of multi-genre content, including comedy, animation, drama and music video.

Speaking about the collaboration Noah Koff, director of distribution at Future Shorts said: “The project marks an exciting milestone for Future Shorts as the company expands into curating longer form programming to reach fragmenting TV audiences, across multiple platforms including TV, web and mobile.“

The shorts will be broadcast until the end of September 2009.
