Writer/directorRobert Towne, actor/director Kathy Bates and directorNicolas Roeg will give this year's writing, actingand directing masterclasses at the 18th Galway Film Fleadh (July 11-16).

Townewill give the screenwriting masterclass and present aspecial screening of Chinatown. Kathy Bates will give theactor's masterclass, facilitated by casting directorJohn Hubbard, and she will also be the subject of the annual Fleadh public interview.

VeteranUK director Nic Roeg, who recently wrappedhis latest film Puffball on locationin Ireland, will give the director'smasterclass and present some of his classic filmssuch as Don't Look Now, The Man Who FellTo Earth and Bad Timing, at the Fleadh.

Runningin parallel to the Fleadh is the Galway Film Fair industryevent (July 14-16). The focus of this year's Real Deal seminar is anexamination of European co-productions titled The European Puzzle.

Thiswill include a detailed production case-study of Palmed'Or winner TheWind That Shakes The Barley, filmed in Ireland and financed from sixdifferent countries, with Rebecca O'Brien (UK producer), Andrew Lowe (Irishco-producer), Nigel Thomas (Matador Pictures) and John Fletcher (Pathe Pictures).

Theevent will also include a discussion of the distinct regional funds availablein several different European countries; the benefits of shooting in Poland,Hungary, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria; and an appraisal of thelikely impact of the new UK tax regime on film production in Ireland.

Thefull Fleadh Programme will be announced on June 26.
