Cast includes Naomi Watts and Robin Wright.

Gaumont has boarded Anne Fontaine’s next film, The Grandmothers, and will start pre-sales at the AFM this week. Oscar winner Christopher Hampton has adapted Doris Lessing’s novella.

Naomi Watts, Robin Wright, Xavier Samuel and James Frecheville are attached to star.

The Grandmothers is the story of two women, best friends since childhood, who fall in love with each other’s sons, carrying on affairs for years until they resolve to end them and see their sons married off - a turn that has lasting impact on all concerned.

Philippe Carcassonne (Ciné-@), Françis Boespflug (Gaumont), Dominique Besnehard and Michel Feller (Mon Voisin Productions) and Andrew Mason (Hopscotch) are producing the $16m film which will shoot in Australia beginning in February next year for a Cannes 2013 delivery.

At the AFM, Gaumont will also world premiere Olivier Marchal’s Gang Story and will show a promo reel of the English-language remake of Nicolas Winding Refn’s Pusher which is directed by Luis Prieto. The company will also screen first footage of comedy The Chef starring Jean Reno.
