The Global Film Initiative (GFI) has granted completion funding todramas from eight international film-makers in its autumn granting cycle.

The recipients are: Artan Minarolli for the Albanian project Alive; Nedzad Begovic's tale The Day WhenThe Winter Began fromBosnia & Herzegovina; Ravi L Bharwani's Indonesian project Jermal; and Leo's Room from Uruguayan film-maker EnriqueBuchichio.

The list continues with Pablo Jose Meza's The Old Woman At TheBack and SandraGugliotta's The Possible Lives, both from Argentina; Ernest Abdyjaparov's Kazakh project PureCoolness; and Kazim Oz'Turkish story The Storm.

Since its inception in 2002, GFI has awarded close to 50 grants.Previous recipients include Marcelo Gomez's current Brazilian foreign languageOscar submission Cinema, Aspirins And Vultures, Juan Pablo Rebella and Pablo Stoll's2005 Uruguayan Oscar entry Whisky, and Nguyen-Vo Nghiem-Minh's 2006 Vietnamese Oscar entry BuffaloBoy.
