US-basedcharitable trust the Global Film Initiative has picked up Juan Pablo Rebellaand Pablo Stoll's Cannes award-winning drama Whisky for its Global Lens touring filmsseries.

The Initiative is also partnering up with the Museum ofModern Art for the New York premiere, which is expected some time in Decemberas part of MoMA's 10-week series of premiere screenings.

Whisky will screen at cultural institutionsacross the US throughout 2005 as part of its second annual Global Lens series.

Following this,the picture will be considered for an extended theatrical run through apreviously announced partnership with First Run Features, and will be releasedon video under the combined Global Film Initiative and First Run Featureslabel.

First Run'ssister company, First Run/Icarus Films, will handle educational film sales tolibraries and universities.

Whisky is about two sock factory employees inMontevideo whose lives are changed forever when the estranged brother of one ofthe men returns to town.

The Initiativeestablished a relationship with the Uruguyan film-makers when it grantedpost-production funding to Whisky in autumn 2003.
