Master French auteurJean-Luc Godard's latest film Notre Musique will be screened in the official selection but outof competition at Cannes Film Festival, according to organisers, who also enigmatically promised a surprise for Godard on the night of the film's screening.

The film is split into threeparts: Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. Hell isshot out of both historical and chronological order with no dialogue and onlymusic to accompany it. Purgatorytakes place in current day Sarajevo during the European Book Rendez-Vous and isbased around conversations and conferences about the necessity of poetry, theIsraeli-Palestinian conflict and other subjects. Heaven finds a young woman at peace on a beach guarded bythe US Marines. The cast is composed largely of unknowns and includes NadeDieu, Rony Kramer, Sarah Adler and Jean-Christophe Bouvet.

Godardwas last a presence at Cannes when his Eloge De L'Amour was in competition in 2001.
