Cuba Gooding Jr has signed to star in Millennium Films' Hero Wanted, which is scheduled to begin shooting in April in Bulgaria.
Brian Smrz makes his directorial debut on the story of a garbage collector who stages a heist so he can play the hero and impress his girlfriend. When the man is double-crossed by his associates, he seeks revenge.
Richard Salvatore, Johnny Martin and David Ornston are producing, with Millennium's Trevor Short and Boaz Davidson serving as executive producers.
'I was very impressed by Smrz' creative vision,' Martin said. 'I felt he would bring real style to this project. After being courted by the studios (and me) for years to direct his first feature, he has finally found the right vehicle.'
Gooding currently appears with Eddie Murphy in Norbit and will be seen in Ridley Scott's upcoming thriller American Gangster with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.
