Ariel Veneziano of GreeneStreet Films International has closed a slew of sales in Venice on John August's feature directorial debut The Nines.

Rights have gone to: Argentina (Telexcel), Brazil (Playarte), Eastern Europe (Blue Sky), Greece (Village Roadshow), Iceland (Sena), Israel (Forum Film), the Middle East (Italia Film), Portugal (Castelo Lopes), Scandinavia (Non-Stop), South Africa (Ster Kinekor) and Turkey (D Productions). Optimum holds UK rights.

'Coming in to Venice we expected a strong response to the film and we haven't been disappointed,' Veneziano said. 'We couldn't be more pleased with the sales this film is generating.

The film, which played in Critics Week at the Venice Film Festival, stars Ryan Reynolds as a troubled film star, a video game designer and a television show runner whose lives intertwine mysteriously. Hope Davis and Elle Fanning also star.

Newmarket Films holds domestic rights. August's screenwriting credits include Big Fish, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Charlie's Angels, and Go.
