Seeking to benefit the local economy, the board of directors of the Hamptons International Film Festival has moved this year's event forward by one week to take place over Columbus Day Weekend holiday and run from October 8-12.

The 17th annual event will remain based in East Hampton with additional venues in Southampton, Sag Harbor and Montauk.

According to the board the date shift was made in consultation with many of the festival's sponsors, underwriters and guests to maximise attendance and benefit local shops, restaurants and hotels.

Hamptons International Film Festival board chairman Stuart Match Suna stressed the festival remained 'deeply committed' to bringing the best of cinema to the region.
