HanWay Films has announced plans for a big-screen adaptation of Brideshead Revisited, to start shooting this spring.

Kinky Boots and Becoming Jane director Julian Jarrold will direct from Andrew Davies and Jeremy Brock's screenplay adapted from the Evelyn Waugh classic novel.

Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae of Ecosse Films, who worked with HanWay on Becoming Jane, have developed the project and are producing.

The project is set to shoot on location in Oxford and in Venice. The story follows a story of forbidden love among former aristocrats in pre-WWII England.

Casting will be announced soon.

Bernstein said: 'With its theme of love across a religious divide Brideshead is very relevant to our time. We are delighted to be with the team at HanWay once again.'

Heading into Berlin's European Film Market, sales company HanWay has a slate that also includes Franklyn starring Ewan McGregor, Michael Winterbottom's Genova, Sarah Polley's Panorama selection Away From Her and Phillip Noyce's Dirt Music.
