HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins will be the subject of a Gotham Award Tribute at the 18th Annual Gotham Awards on December 2 in New York.

'Sheila has unquestionably been one of the most influential forces in documentary film-making,' IFP executive director Michelle Byrd said. 'She is almost single-handedly responsible for bringing documentaries into mainstream popular culture. Her work has not only changed the documentary landscape, it's opened minds and spurred change.'

During Nevin's tenure HBO documentaries have earned 19 Academy Awards. She oversees development and production on all documentaries for HBO and Cinemax and their multiplex channels. As an executive producer or producer, she has won 22 primetime Emmys, 25 news and documentary Emmys and 28 Peabody Awards. Nevins was also presented with a personal Peabody in recognition of her work.

Nominees for the 18th Annual Gotham Awards will be announced on October 20 and the winners will be feted at the gala dinner on December 2.
