Highlight Communications, the Swiss-based distributor and licensor, has picked up German-speaking rights to Tadpole, a low-budget coming of age drama directed by Gary Winick.

The sale was the only one to Germany that Miramax agreed during Cannes. "We have seen everyone, but the offers are just too low," said Miramax International chief Rick Sands during the festival. "They stepped up to the plate and the deal was done right at the end of the market," a Miramax spokesperson since told Screendaily.

Miramax paid in the region of $6m for the picture when it premiered at Sundance in January. It stars Sigourney Weaver as the object of her fifteen-year-old stepson's romantic obsession and was one of seven digital video productions made through the InDigEnt collective at an average cost of no more than $1m apiece.
